A local court acquitted Sikh political prisoners and Sarbat Khalsa appointed Jathedar Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara in an attempt-to-murder case here today. The case, registered under TADA and Arms Acts, was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Sunita Kumari Sharma through video conferencing.
Bhai Hawara, a convict in the murder case of former Chief Minister Beant Singh, is lodged in the Tihar Jail, Delhi.
Bhai Hawara, who had been facing five cases in local courts, has been acquitted in the second case within two months. On February 24, he was acquitted in a case registered against him under the Arms Act due to lack of evidence.
Four cases were registered against him at the Chamkaur Sahib police station for various offences. Today’s acquittal came in a 25-year-old case (registered on September 22, 1991).
It was alleged that he was involved in an encounter with the police on September 2, 1991, near Hawara village. Three police personnel were injured in the incident.
A case was registered against unidentified persons. Hawara’s name was included at a later stage.
