Ludhiana – Sikh youth leader and human rights activist from Punjab, Bhai Damandeep Singh is released from jail by the Ludhiana police. He was arrested along with Bapu Surat Singh’s son on February 26.
Bhai Damandeep Singh Khalsa came into the limelight during the Amb Sahib morcha when he sat on Hunger strike while Gurbaksh Singh was picked up by Police and also organized protest marches in favour of Gurbaksh Singh.
Bapu Surat Singh’s son – Ravinder Jeet Singh Gogi however still remains imprisoned. He has refused to furnish a bail, claiming that he did nothing wrong by accompanying his elderly father at the hospital. Ravinder jeet Singh, who is a US citizen has come to India to look over his father Bapu Surat Singh sitting on hunger strike since 16th January.
On 7th March, Ravinder Jeet Singh Gogi and Damandeep Singh were presented in Ludhiana Sessions Court by the police. Both were brought here handcuffed, against the orders of the Supreme Court.
It is important to mention that Ravinder Jeet Singh and Damandeep Singh were arrested and kept in custody by the police without charge for 24 hours. It was only with the intervention of the US Embassy (Delhi) officials that charges were finally filed the next day.
