Chicago – Bapu Surat Singh’s Son-in-Law Satwinder Singh Bhola, 52, died in the parking lot outside his complex in the 2900 block of Cannes Drive, according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll.
Satwinder Singh had several stab wounds, though the injury to his neck likely proved fatal. An autopsy has been scheduled for later Monday to determine exactly what caused the death.
Police responded to a call for an altercation in the parking lot at 12:02 a.m. and found Bhola in a nearby parking lot.
He had more than $2,000 cash in his pocket and other financial items like a blank check that were not taken during the deadly encounter, so the motive didn’t appear to be robbery.
Satwinder Singh was the owner of a South Peoria liquor store.
Police have not publicly identified any suspects and have not made any arrests.
Bhola’s slaying is the 12th homicide in the city so far this year and the sixth violent death since July 14.
Bhola was husband of Sarvinder Kaur, who was taking care of Bapu Surat Singh when he was admitted to a hospital. She returned to the US a few days ago. She had gone back to Chicago only on August 5.
Bapu Surat Singh’s son Ravinderjit Singh Gogi confirmed the incident. The family is in a state of shock.
A pall of gloom descended on Khalsa’s house at Hasanpur village in Ludhiana with people pouring in to offer their condolences.
