Hassanpur – A massive police and army presence in Bapu Surat Singh’s village Hassanpur caused alarm today. Nearly 50 vehicles of Police and 15 vehicles of Army descended on Hassanpur village as more army was still on call.
However, despite such a massive presence of police and barricades being set up by police outside Hassanpur, Sikh Sangat was arriving in Hassanpur.
As per latest news, DC and SSP held a meeting with the Sangharsh committee, pressing them to end Bapu ji’s hunger strike and have him transferred to a hospital. However Bapu Ji refused to agree and has stated that his martyrdom is approaching. He said that he has given commitment to Sangat so will not go against his words.
Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa remained unconscious for about two hours last night, forcing top leaders of the Sangharsh committee, including Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, Bhai Mohkam Singh, Gurdeep Singh Bathinda and Jaskaran Singh, to rush to his home at Hassanpur village in Ludhiana district.
“He regained consciousness only after his followers gave him a massage. He has neither taken any food nor any medical aid for the past 28 days now. He was earlier force fed at a hospital in Ludhiana,” said Gurdip Singh Bathinda, a member of the committee.
It is to be advised that the deteriorating health of Surat Singh Khalsa, who has been on an indefinite fast for almost six months seeking the release of Sikh prisoners, has sent the alarm bells ringing for several Sikh organisations.
The Sangharsh Committee set up on the matter has alleged the SAD-BJP government had developed cold feet on its commitment to secure the release of Sikh prisoners under pressure of the Modi-led NDA government.
The committee which had held three meetings with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and subsequently with senior police and jail authorities on May 28 and afterwards on the matter is “discouraged” over the stance of the state government.
