Sangrur: Vikram Singh from Dhanaula (Barnala), who had thrown a shoe at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on August 15, 2014 at Issru, will contest Dhuri Assembly by-election. He will file his nomination papers on March 20. Vikram said he wanted to bring an end to corruption and lawlessness. He had reportedly worked for the AAP during the Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, Former Nabha MLA Ramesh Singla is said to be in the race for the SAD ticket for Dhuri Assembly by-election. The other contenders are Gobind Longowal, former state minister, and Parshotam Dass Garg, director of Ricela Health Foods Limited, Dhuri. Ramesh Singla’s native village is Bardwal, around four km away from Dhuri.
Gaganjeet Barnala, former MLA and son of former Chief Minister Surjit Barnala, is hopeful that the joint Opposition will elect him as its candidate. He may contest on the Congress symbol. Barnala gave credit to Manpreet Badal, PPP supremo, for bringing all opposition parties on one platform. He also gave credit to the Congress high command. He claimed that former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh also supported him.
AAP not to contest Dhuri byelection
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already announced that it will not contest the Dhuri byelection. Sources in AAP said that alarmed at the infighting at the national level, the party’s top leadership in Punjab had revised their decision to contest the Dhuri byelection.
