MELBOURNE – A baby is believed to have died after a pram was dragged 100 metres through the middle of Melbourne’s city centre by the car involved in today’s horrific rampage.

At least four children were hurt during the chaos on Bourke Street on Friday afternoon as a car ploughed into at least 25 pedestrians, with a baby reportedly thrown from a pushchair.

The 26-year-old man responsible for the rampage in Melbourne’s city centre on Friday has been identified as Dimitrious Gargasoulas (main). The Sydney man has a history of mental health and drug-related issues and was charged with family violence offences last weekend.

On Friday afternoon police shot the 26-year-old in the arm before dragging him out of a car and arresting him after he allegedly drove his car through the CBD killing four people. A young child is among the dead, police said.

The maroon vehicle was seen doing burnouts outside Flinders Street Station (top right) before driving into crowds of shoppers on busy Bourke Street at about 1.30pm. Police say they shot a 26-year-old man before dragging him out of a car and arresting him (left). Police said number of victims to 25 people.

Witnesses joined emergency services trying to comfort or treat victims left bleeding on the streets (bottom right) Officers said the incident is believed to be linked to a stabbing of a man in Windsor, in Melbourne’s south-east at 2am on Friday.
