Faridkot, September 1 – Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal’s family members, supporters and associates in the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) visited him in the Central Jail here today. The Baba is in judicial custody in two criminal cases. He was arrested by the Jaito police on August 22 for possessing illegal firearms.
His supporters alleged that the police had tortured Baba Daduwal and obtained his signatures on blank papers to announce his resignation from the HSGMC. Gurmeet Singh, Baba Daduwal’s father-in-law, claimed that he was not in good health as he was not getting proper treatment inside the jail. On the ‘resignation’ row, he said he had spoken to his son-in-law but would not say anything till the latter was released on bail.
Harinder Singh, HSGMC member, was among those who visited Baba Daduwal today. He alleged that the police had pressured the Baba into signing on blank papers.
“The HSGMC has yet to receive his resignation letter,” he claimed. “It is all a drama by the Punjab government and the SGPC to weaken the HSGMC. Besides slapping fresh criminal cases on Daduwal and opening closed cases, the police have wrested the control of Gurdwara Jandialisar in Bathinda to weaken the Baba’s support base and demoralise him,” he alleged.
