Australian Taxi Driver attacked by Aboriginals in Cairns

A TAXI driver was attacked during a violent robbery in Cairns on Wednesday.

It is believed the male driver, 25, picked up three men from the city about 2.50am on Wednesday.

When one of the men vomited in the cab the driver stopped at the intersection of Martyn and Charles streets.

Here one of the men grabbed and held on to the driver while the other two assaulted him while trying to steal cash.

The trio then fled on foot with the driver’s mobile phone, which was later found nearby.

The driver sustained a concussion during the attack and grazing to his hands and knees.

He was taken to Cairns Base Hospital for observation.

A man, 25, was helping police with their inquiries.
