In a major development, the prime witness Kirpal Singh in Asaram rape case was shot at in UP’s Shahjahanpur. Kirpal Singh is in critical condition and has been rushed to a hospital.
This comes after a witness in the case against Asaram turned hostile in a Jodhpur court on Wednesday. Yet, investigating officials and the victim’s counsel maintain that they have a watertight case against him.
This is the fifth attack on his witnesses since the the self styled godman was put behind bars in rape cases.
Asaram has been lodged in a jail in Jodhpur Central Jail following his arrest in September 2013 for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl in one of his ashrams.
After the student complained of nausea, Asaram conveyed to her family through his aides that she needed to be exorcised. He had called her to his ashram in Jodhpur on the eve of Independence Day in 2013, spending over more than an hour with her alone in his meditation hut.
Subsequently, the girl had alleged that he had sexually assaulted her. Out of 58 witnesses in the case, 42 were deemed important.
