Anandpur Sahib: Religious fervor overflowed at Sri Anandpur Sahib as a sea of pilgrims from across the globe converged here to have a date with historic occasion.
With the three-day religious programme to mark the 350th foundation day of Anandpur Sahib beginning today, much activity was seen around PAP Chowk to Phagwara bypass on the GT road where from jathas passed through to reach out to the venue.
Gatka shows were held by Nihang jathas who marched along horses and elephants in the form of processions. Stalls of sweet water and langar were organised all through the way for the Sikh sangat.
Since the day was to mark a programme for the women at Anandpur Sahib, several Sikh women donning saffron dupattas from across the city and suburbs got together at various points and were ferried to Anandpur Sahib in school, college buses arranged for the event. As many as 40 buses of various institutes of Jalandhar and Kapurthala, including those of Bawa Lalvani School, CT Public School, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University and St Joseph’s Convent School were arranged through DTOs of respective districts for the Akali leaders in the region.
Media in charge of SAD Charanjiv Singh Lally said 12 buses of women jathas started for Anandpur early this morning and were back late evening. He said 23 buses had been arranged for June 19.
For ferrying the pilgrims, a special train, from Delhi to Sri Anandpur Sahib, has also been scheduled, which would reach this holy city on June 19.
