The immigration authorities stopped Kirandeep Kaur, wife of Amritpal Singh, from boarding the flight for UK at Sri Guru Ram Dass ji International airport here on Thursday. She was questioned by the Amritsar rural police authorities along with officials of different intelligence agencies.
After nearly four hours of questioning, Kirandeep Kaur was sent back to the village at Jallupur Khera. Her flight departed at 2.30 pm after nearly an hour of delay.
Immigration officials stopped Kaur at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar, acting on a lookout notice that was issued against her. Officials quoted by The Indian Express said that Kaur was not allowed to board an Air India flight to Birmingham, which departed at 2:30 pm.
Kirandeep Kaur is a British citizen and was married to Amritpal Singh at his native village, Jallupur Khera, in February this year. Her name has allegedly cropped in connection with the foreign funding to the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organisation headed by Amritpal Singh.
Though police officials are tight lipped over Kirandeep Kaur being detained at airport for questioning, sources in the intelligence said that a look out circular was issued against her. Therefore, when she arrived at the airport, she was stopped for questioning.
She arrived at the airport at around 11.30 am. Her flight was to take off at 1.30pm, which was delayed by an hour. She reportedly pointed out that she was a British citizen and there was no case registered against her.
She had denied the allegations against her about foreign funding and relations with Babbar Khalsa organisation.
Sikhs across the world have spoken out against what is believed to be an unlawful flight ban against the wife of Amritpal Singh by Indian authorities.
