AMRIK Singh Ahluwalia is the new chair of the Peel Police Services Board. The Peel Regional Police is Canada’s third largest municipal police force.
Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey and Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie both backed Ahluwalia because he was seen as the right person to lead them and reflect the region’s diverse population. He also backed the mayors in voting against police street checks that are seen as racist.
Ahluwalia was first appointed by the provincial government to the board in February 2011 and re-appointed for a second term in April 2014.
He is a business leader with extensive background in manufacturing and petro-chemicals. He retired from Shell Canada as General Manager after 29 years in various capacities in projects, strategy, optimization and creating new opportunities.
Ahluwalia has organised several youth camps. He has served as President of Sikh Society Calgary and founding Director of Khalsa Credit Union, Calgary. He is a volunteer with Seva Food Bank Mississauga.
He has a Masters in Engineering from Carleton University and an MBA from McMaster University.
Ahluwalia is a keen golfer and likes to travel. He lives in Brampton with Inderbir, his wife of 40 years.
