Greens stalwart Alex Bhathal has sensationally quit the party, dismayed at what she describes as a heartbreaking decision.
Alex Bhathal, who has repeatedly contested the inner-Melbourne electorate of Batman – now known as Cooper – on Friday published a lengthy statement on her website, scathing of the Victorian Greens and having been “subject to relentless organisational bullying”.
I have lost faith in the Party’s governance and I can no longer remain silent about the abuses of power and process that seem to be endemic within the organisation.
Documents seen by The Age show one-third of the Greens’ Victorian members quit the party in the 21 months to December, with more resignations expected to follow even as the party prepares for this year’s federal election.
Ms Bhathal says she has been subjected to “relentless organisational bullying” within the Victorian branch, claiming the Greens have a “gross problem with governance and process” that threatens to derail the party.
