Chandigarh (September 4, 2014)—Akali Nihang Jathedar Baba Surjeet Singh, Current Jathedar of Buddha Dal 96 Krori passed away yesterday around 6pm. Baba Surjeet Singh had been imprisoned since year 2007 in Patiala Central Jail, where other high profile Sikh political prisoners like Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana are kept.
Whilst at Patiala jail, he is said to have suffered a lot of torture. Baba Surjeet Singh was admitted at PGI hospital in Chandigarh, where he passed away due to ill health. Â While Baba Surjeet Singh was imprisoned, his followers had named Baba Joginder Singh as the acting Jathedar.
A Glimpse on Akali Baba Surjeet Singh ji’s Life
Jathedar Akali Baba Surjeet Singh Ji is the current Commander-in-Chief of Kalgidhar Patshah’s Guru Ki Laadli Fauj. Baba Ji was born on June 7th 1945 in Murar, Amritsar.
Before Baba Ji joined the Dal, Baba Ji served in the Punjab armoured police from 1964-1969. After Baba Ji quit the Police Force, he went to Anandpur Sahib and did 3 months of Seva and then went home. Baba Ji also helped out in the Kar Seva of Amritsar for 2 years. Baba Ji officially joined the Budha Dal in 1970 and was given a horse and a Shastar from Sachkhand Vasi Singh Sahib Jathedar Akali Baba Chet Singh Ji, the 12th Jathedar of Budha Dal.
Baba Ji took Amrit in 1972 from the Budha Dal and did Ghoriya Di Seva (Seva of cleaning the horses) for 3 years. Baba Ji’s daily routine was to do Ishnaan and Nitnem at 00:30hrs and at 03:30hrs Baba Ji would see to all of the horses to whom he did Seva of.
In 1975, Baba Ji did seva of the Nishan Sahibs for 3 years. In 1978, Baba Ji was made the Budha Dal Nagarchi and carried out this Seva for 17 ears. During this time, Baba Ji was made the Meet (Vice) Jathedar to Sachkhand Vasi Singh Sahib Jathedar Akali Baba Santa Singh Ji. In 2005, Baba Santa Singh Ji made Baba Surjeet Singh Ji the Jathedar of the Budha Dal due to Jathedar Baba Santa Singh Ji’s deteriorating health.
