Working on the long pending demands of the Sikh community, Bangladesh Government recognized Sikh Anand Marriage Act 1909. After Pakistan, Bangladesh is the second country in South East Asia to recognize Sikh Anand Marriage Act.
Sikh Anand Marriage Act, formulated in 1909, has also been passed in India, but due to pending notification from Indian Government, Sikhs in their homeland still need to use Hindu Marriage Act to register marriage.
SGPCÂ president, Avtar Singh Makkar appraised the efforts of Bangladesh Government of implementing Sikh Anand Marriage Act, and told that he will also push Indian government to get it implemented in India.
