81 feet high Khanda installed at Anandpur Sahib falls down

ROPAR:  The 81 feet high ‘Khanda’ made of steel and installed in ‘Punj pyara’ Park at holy city Anandpur Sahib has fallen down.

The Khanda was installed on June 13,2015 with much fanfare in the presence of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib jathedar Giani Mal Singh and Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema.

The Khanda weighing three tonnes was installed on a platform of 39 feet constructed to install the 42 feet high and 18 feet wide Khanda.

The Moga based company Satnam Fabrications which built it had claimed that it was built with aero-dynamic design which can resist the high air pressure. The steel frame of Khanda had cost Rs.20 lakhs.

Khanda removed, to be repaired

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) removed the damaged khanda from Panj Piara Park here today. The 81-feet-high khanda had bent due to high-speed winds yesterday.

A team of experts accompanied by SGPC additional secretary Daljeet Singh Bedi reached the park and removed the khanda for repair.

Bedi told the media that after repair, it would be installed at the same place soon. It took a fabricator in Moga three months to prepare the three-tonne khanda at a cost of Rs 22 lakhAt the time of installation, it was claimed that the khanda has been built with an aerodynamic design to stand strong winds.
