A RUNNER in Sydney’s City2Surf race has died after suffering a cardiac arrest near the finish line.
The man, believed to be 27 and from Coogee, collapsed at Bondi Beach on the last stretch of the annual road race.
Ambulance officers carried the man, who was unconscious, on a stretcher and managed to stabilize him, the ABC said.
He was taken to St Vincent’s hospital in a critical condition, a spokesman for the NSW Ambulance Service said.
But he couldn’t be saved. A hospital spokesman told AAP: “He passed away at the hospital, shortly after arriving.”
More than 80,000 people took part in the 14km race from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach — by way of the infamous “Heartbreak Hill”.
