The two-day celebrations of the 232nd anniversary of the establishment of Khalsa Panth rule concluded yesterday at Red Fort in Delhi.
The Delhi Fateh Diwas festival was scheduled for March 21 and 22. DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said the festival is aimed at highlighting the “Golden historic moment” of the Khalsa Panth when Sikhs ruled the country from New Delhi.
The event marks the time when Sikh warrior Sardar Baghel Singh hoisted the Kesri Nishan Sahib of the Khalsa Panth at the Red Fort on March 11, 1783, after defeating then Mughal emperor Shah Alam and crowning Sardar Jassa Singh Ahluwalia as the new emperor in the Diwan-e-Aam.
The event was organised at a mega level to highlight this “historic event“, which does not find significant mention in modern Indian history.
This is the second time that the Delhi Fateh Divas is being organised by DSGMC, in which around one lakh people of various religions took part.
Five head priests lead the Jarnaili March victory processions from ancient Hanuman Mandir to Red Fort on March 22. Besides, Nihang Singh Jathebandis, police and military bands, different religious organizations and Gatka groups also took part in the march.
Light and Sound Show was also held at the Lal Qila on both evenings of 21st and 22nd March. Various Kirtani Jathas recited Gurbani Kirtan at Lal Qila to commemorate the glorious past of Sikhs and their valour.
Bhai Baldev Singh made Sikh Sangat aware about anti-gurmat activities which were to take place at the 2nd day of Delhi Fateh Diwas. He said that he approached the Delhi Committee to cancel these anti-Sikh activities and instead include Dhadi vaars and gatka performances, which was accepted by Delhi committee.
According to media reports, DSGMC has asked the government to make Delhi Fateh Divas a national event to be celebrated every year.
