Ludhiana: All those convicted in the 2007 Shingar bomb blast case have been acquitted by Ludhiana court here on Tuesday, in which six persons had lost their lives and many were injured, for lack of evidence.
Those acquitted were Gurpreet Singh, Harvinder Singh Khalsa and Ramminder Singh Rinku. Ravinder Singh was arrested on December 30, 2007, Gurpreet Singh on January 2, 2008, and Harminder Singh in March 2010. The prosecution examined 43 witnesses and the defence 17. The accused had pleaded that they had been falsely implicated in the case. After the end of arguments, the court observed that the three could not be convicted on the basis of evidence produced before it.
The fourth accused, Sandeep Singh Herry, had died in Maximum security Nabha jail under mysterious circumstances during trial.
In the blast on October 14, 2007, six persons had lost their lives and 42 others had sustained serious injuries.
A Bhojpuri film ‘Janam Janam ka Saath’ was being screened at that time and the cinema hall was packed to the capacity as it was Dusshera festival.
FIR was registered on that day on the complaint of cinema manager Gopal Krishan.
